Our History

Founded in 1973 by two visionary registered pharmacists, Cornell McBride and Thurman McKenzie, M&M Products began its journey in Atlanta, Georgia. Their mission was simple: to create high-performance products that catered to the specific needs of textured hair, beginning with the revolutionary Sta Sof Fro. It was the first product designed to keep Afro-textured hair from shrinking or tangling, while moisturizing and enhancing its natural shape. The impact was immediate, and demand soared, leading M&M Products to become one of the fastest-growing companies in the Black Enterprise list.

By the late 1970s, M&M Products continued to innovate, introducing solutions for curly-permed hair, and by 1981, we entered the professional salon market with the launch of Sof n’Free. The brand’s success only grew, achieving over $50 million in sales by 1983.

In 1989, M&M Products was sold to Johnson Products, but our story didn’t end there. In 1995, we returned to Atlanta, ready to rewrite the next chapter for Ethnic hair care and grooming. Today, we are a proud family-owned business with global reach, with associated companies in the UK and South Africa, continuing our mission to provide high-quality products and solutions for textured hair.
